RAMARPANAM-2

Jai Sri Ram.

Apl. 2, 2012.

Sri Ramayanam, is told in 24000 and odd verses spread over 6 cantos or sections, where of It has more number of verses in less number of sections, unlike the Bagavada Puranam or the Gita Sastra which are told in increasingly more sections and less verses.

Ramayana, of course, in it's original form is much lengthier and voluminous with 100 crore verses and that being recited in Sathya Loka. Sage Valmiki, at the behest of Narada Muni, condensed the same in the present form for the benefit of mortals like us to learn and erudite on it's teachings.

Srimad Ramayana is so sacred to all of us because it is again one of the ancillary study material for perfecting Vedic knowledge. In this respect it forms part of the Upa-Brahmanas, with in the list of Smriti, Ithihasa, Puranas. In all, the Smrits add value to the action part (Karma Kanta) and the others add value to the Vedanta portion (Jnana Kanta) of the Vedic teachings.

Our knowledge on the Vedas will be in complete and incipient with out these tools and the morals they convey should be guiding both our inward and outward life.
