RAMARPANAM-13

Jai Sri Ram.
Part 13.
April 17, 2012.

Rama, the grateful and truthful King of Ayodhya.

The story of  Ramayana though named so, carries an impromptu depiction of Sita's character more profusely than that of Rama and in that sense the name Sitayana would be a fitting caption.

A careful study of the Ramayana would also  reveal the truth that whenever Rama was with Sita and be Sitarama, the Asuras even though worthy of  capital punishments, were forgiven, as in the case of KakAsura and in Her abduction and separation, the inevitable happen to them, as in the case of  Kabandan, mArEchan, Kara-Dhooshanas and vAli.

The title Kruthajna: to Sri Rama ambient His Gratefulness, measures manifold in return for the smallest of help that augurs to Him . The human tendency is to forget the good done to one instantly and to keep in long memory the bad remotely done. Sri Rama on the other hand does the opposite. When Vibheeshana joined Rama's camp, after being banished from Ravana's kingdom, Rama not only gave him asylum but also felt obliged to Vibheeshana in his coming to Rama rather than His going to Lanka to have got his brotherly companionship.

Here a doubt may arise as to why should Rama send Lakshmana to Sugreeva with a message of dire consequences of dispatching him the way vAli was done to death. This of course was a veiled threat to Sugreeva, just to make him realise the mistake of not keeping up his friendship treaty of setting in motion the efforts to find Sita.
In fact when Lakshmana was all set to hand out a death nail to him, Rama desisted him from doing so.

Rama's Truthfulness or guiles approach again is established when He weighed the offer of Crown and its denial alike and then took to forest life. There was never an instance of  Rama let slip a lie from His mouth.

The occasion when JatAyu was slayed and Rama in a clout of anguish, dejectedly though, uttered words of  His wrong doing of taking up the forest life. This by itself will not amount to Rama not being truthful. He still would continue His penance of  fulfilling King Dasratha’s promise to Kaigeyi.  In the context of Rama’s desire to continue His search for Sita under the guidance and help of JatAyu MaharAjar, had He survived, Rama would  have found His happiness partly. That was denied and hence Rama spoke thus and that doth really break His vow to be truthful? No.

“Nadayil nindruyar Naayagan” , so prides KambanAttAlwan  about Rama and we will do well to emulate thus in every walk of our life.
