RAMARPANAM-10

Jai Sri Ram

Apl. 12, 2012.

SRI RAMA, THE EPITOME OF ALL GREAT VIRTUES.

The birth of the story of Ramayana is as interesting as Ramayana Itself.

Valmiki, having finished the daily ablutions, was one day returning from Tamasa river. As He was approaching His Ashram, He happened to witness a hunter shooting down one of the two Krouncha birds (Pigeons) as meal for the day. But the Rushi, enraged by the sight of the bird falling a prey and acting under the compulsion of the event, cursed of similar sufferings of separation and desperation to befall him.

Valmiki, however was not happy and started pondering over the fall of events and why that He had to curse the Nishada etc. There appeared Sage Narada, to the good of Valmiki. He narrated the episode to Narada and the unhappiness that ensued him following the condemnation of the events.

Narada, explained that there is a purpose behind the happenings and that He is the chosen one to compile Ramayana, starting the  way He composed the sloka to curse the hunter. He further explained to Valmiki, how the same verse of condemnation in reality conveys the story of Sri Rama, unlocking the inner meaning that Sita and Rama were separated by Ravana like the hunter did to the birds.

Valmiki, desirous to know as to who would be that ideal person, bestowed with 16 virtues, about whom He  would write.
The 16 virtues He enquired about are:
1. SeelavAn - one who will have wanted inclusion with every one, big or small, poor or rich, friend or foe....
2. Veera: - having heroic courage or valour
3. Dharmajna: - knower of righteous way
4. Kruthajna: - full of gratitude
5. SathyavAn - nitty-gritty or truthful
6. Thrudavratha: - steadfast
7. ChAritram - good conduct
8. Budeshu hitha: - compassionate
9. VidhvAn - knowledgeable
10.Samartan - proficient
11.Priya dharsanan - good manners
12.AtmavAn - he who possess all Atmas (soul)
13.Jitakrodha: - one who has conquered anger
14.DyuthimAn - man with a fire or dazzle
15.Anasuyatha: - devoid of jealousy

16.God powering - the precursor of all demi-Gods

Narada proclaimed that the Uttama Purusha, he was seeking with all the above 16 moral excellence was none other than

"IkshvAgu vamsa prabava: Ramo nAma janaisrudha:"Narada then revealed the Samkshibda Ramayanam for elaboration by Him.

Thus the birth of the Story of Ramayana is not accidental but follows a greater design of the Almighty in leading the samsAri chetanAs to a virtuous life and to prorogue the present one.
