RAMARPANAM-20

File 20

Jai Sri Ram

Out of temper or Rage, the two faces of Rama, augur well.

In all Vishnu temples we invariably find Garuda seated facing the main Deity. The Vedas that reveal the ParamAtma tatva so well, serve the job of a mirror assuming the form of GarudmAn, so that the presiding Deity can have a look of Himself. But in temples where Sri Rama is the deity, HanumAn is seen instead, doing the PurushakAra act.

The noble never angers but if they are caused to anger that spells doom to the inflicted.
Sri Rama being soft in nature would never let loose His temper. He too had occasion to burst with anger and who the inflicted was, needs no guess, to any body.

jithakrOdha: means the conqueror of anger. This face of Rama is seen in respect of Kaigeyi, JatAyu and Sugreeva.

Kaigeyi by enforcing the two boons promised to her by King Dasaratha, not only did she deny the Crown to Sri Rama but also banished Him to jungle life. Any other person, but Rama, would have burst to uncontrolled anger and apathy.

JatAyu was done to death fighting Sita's abduction and Rama at His loss angered not but grieved.

Sugreeva when missed the date for sending the vAnara sainya in search of Sita, Rama had every reason to show His anger on him but that was not to be.

The Same Rama who conquered anger on occasions of His own hardship, was once overpowered by anger to be proclaimed kObasya vasamE ivAn. This happened when Ravana, thinking of greater injury to Rama, started pelting arrows at AnjnEya, His Baktha. This face of Rame saw the end of Ravana.

There is no enemity with any body for God and His devotees. But enemy of one is the adversary of another and the corollary is true again. Ravana bought the enemity of  the sages in DhandakAranya and Rama vanquished him as His own enemy. Sugreeva again considering Ravana, an enemy of Rama, as his own adventured to fist him out in a bout and surrendered Ravana's crown, as a gift to Rama.

Whereof, the anger of the Pious is justified in terms of the good that ensues not to themselves but to others.
